This unique copy of the Sumi nest of tables is exactly as shown in the pictures. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
The name Sumi comes from the Japanese word for ink. The Suminagashi technique, which is used to create a completely unique pattern on each individual table, is literally translated as "ink liquid". A swirling pattern occurs when ink is poured into large bathtubs with water and the surfaces of the table are then allowed to absorb the ink as it floats on the surface. This process was used in 14th century Japan where Shinto monks used it to create beautiful, marbled patterns on paper.
The process behind these unique patterns that appear in the ink bath, and which all become completely individual as they are absorbed into each individual piece of furniture, perfectly complements Ringvide's goal of developing products that offer their own personality and character - objects with soul.
Note that each individual handmade copy of the table may have certain irregularities in the Suminagashi pattern – a personality that we want, and welcomes, and which we think you will appreciate too.
